I. Which content can you edit in the switcher?
Transcy lets you customize and translate two main types of switcher content:
1. Main switcher content elements
These are the primary interface components your customers interact with directly:
• Language: Customize the "Language" button text so shoppers clearly understand how to switch between available languages.
• Currency: Adjust the "Currency" label or options to reflect local terms.
• Search: Translate "Search" button labels.
• Apply: Ensure the "Apply" button text feels natural and encourages customers to proceed.
• Location: Edit the "Location" label for clarity in different regions.
• Change country: Translate and localize how customers see and use the country selection option.
• No result: Customize the message shown when no search results are found, ensuring it's clear and user-friendly.
2. Pop-up recommendation switcher content
These are optional messages shown to international visitors:
• Choose the location you want to shop in: The main instruction shown to customers when they're prompted to select their preferred market.
• Country: The field label for choosing a country.
• Language: The field label for choosing a language.
• Currency: The field label for choosing a currency.
• Search: Text related to searching within the popup.
• No result: The message shown when no matching search results are found.
• Shop now: The call-to-action button that guides customers to continue shopping in their selected settings.
II. How to edit and translate switcher content?
Before customizing your switcher text, make sure your switcher is set up correctly first. Follow this guide Set up Switcher on your store with Transcy
Step 1: Access your switcher content translation settings
→ Select "Translation" in your Transcy dashboard
→ In "Translate content", navigate to "Themes"
→ Click to "Edit translation" (pencil icon)
→ Scroll down the resources
→ Navigate to "Transcy switcher"
Step 2: Sync content from Shopify
Before translating, make sure your switcher content is up to date by clicking "Sync content" button to update the latest default content labels (such as Language, Currency, Search, etc.) from your store.
Step 3: Translate your switcher content
You have two options:
Option 1: Use AI engines to translate
→ Select your preferred AI engine from the dropdown (OpenAI, DeepL, DeepSeek, Grok, Gemini, Baidu, Yandex, or Google)
→ Hit "Translate now"
→ When the translation's done, review the output to ensure tone and meaning fit your market
→ Hit "Save" and your changes will be synced to your storefront
Option 2: Direct input
If you'd rather not use AI, you can input the translations by yourself.
→ In the translation box, input and fill the translations base on your needs
→ Review them once you're done
→ Hit "Save"
→ Your updates will sync right to your storefront
This is a great option if you want full control over word choice, brand voice, or cultural details.
Step 4: Review in your storefront
After updating the new translation, don't forget to preview your store to make sure translations display correctly in the switcher.
III. Best practices for customization
• Keep it concise: Switcher elements should use brief, clear language that doesn't overwhelm customers during their initial site interaction.
• Maintain brand voice: Ensure your customized switcher content reflects your brand personality while remaining functional and clear.
• Test across devices: Verify that your customized text displays properly on both desktop and mobile devices, considering space constraints.
• Consider cultural context: Some markets prefer formal language, while others respond better to casual, friendly tones.
• Regular reviews: Periodically review your switcher translations to ensure they remain current and effective across all markets.
• Coordinated updates: When you update default content, remember to update corresponding translations to maintain consistency.
• Quality assurance: Test your switcher functionality across different languages to ensure all elements work seamlessly together.
