# How to Translate with OpenAI

Before you can translate any language with **OpenAI**, that language must be set as **"editable"** in your **Transcy**. If your target language is currently "**non-editable**", you'll need to switch it first. **Transcy** supports translating your Shopify store with **OpenAI** through **two methods**:
* **Pay-per-use (Without API key)** - Simple, no setup required
* **API key** - More control and customization options

## II. How to translate with OpenAI?

### 1. Method 1: Pay-per-use (Without API key)

**Who can use it:** All paid Transcy users

**Main benefit:** **Super easy setup** - no technical configuration needed, just start translating right away.

**How to use:**
→ Go to the **"Content translation"** section in your **Transcy app**
→ Choose the "**Markets**" you want to control translation first
→ Then choose the "**Language**" at the line "**Translate to:<language>**"
→ Select the **content sources** you want to translate
→ Click "**Translate with AI**" to search your engine
→ Choose "**Open AI**" engines
→ You can manage which market you wanna translate by select **"Select Market"** and choose for the language market you want to translate
→ You can also control your quality of translation input your prompt into "**Additional instructions (Optional)**"
→ In the **Confirm translation** pop-up, press "**Translate now**" to run the progress translation

### 2. Method 2: API Key

**Who can use it:** Users with **Continental, Cross-border, and Global plan**

**Main benefit:** **More control over translation tone** - you can customize how your translations sound to match your brand voice.

**Getting your OpenAI API key:**
→ Visit [https://platform.openai.com/apps](https://platform.openai.com/apps)  
→ Select **API** **Keys**
→ Select **"Create a new secret key"**  
→ Copy the key for use in Transcy

**Setting up in Transcy to use OpenAI API:**
→ Go to **"Account & Settings"** → **"Localization"**  
→ Enter your **OpenAI API key** in the designated field  
→ Choose your preferred **"Tone"** and **"ChatGPT model"**  
→ Click "**Save**" on the top

**Note:** Transcy supports models such as: **gpt-4o-mini,** **gpt-4, gpt-4o, gpt-5.4, gpt-5.4-mini, gpt-5.5, gpt-5.6-sol, gpt-5.6-luna, and gpt-5.6-terra**. By default, Transcy uses **gpt-4o-mini**. You can change it by following these steps:
→ Go to **"Account & Settings"** → **"Localization"**  
→ Click **"ChatGPT model"**

**Using API key translation:**
→ Go to the **"Content translation"** section in your **Transcy app**
→ Choose the "**Markets**" you want to control translation first
→ Then choose the "**Language**" at the line "**Translate to:<language>**"
→ Select the **content sources** you want to translate
→ Click "**Translate with AI**" to search your engine
→ Choose "**Open AI**" engines

### 1. For pay-per-use (Without API key)

**Cost:** **1.2 token** **per 1 word** translated

You can check your payment methods in **"Account & Settings"** → **"Localization settings"**.

### 2. For API key

**Transcy doesn't charge any additional fees** when you use your own API key.
