# How to use Gemini Translation with Transcy

Before you can translate any language with **Gemini**, that language must be set as **"Editable"** in your **Transcy**. If your target language is currently "**Non-editable**", you'll need to switch it first. **Transcy** supports translating your Shopify store with **Gemini** through **two methods**:
* **Pay-per-use (Without API key)** - Simple, no setup required
* **API key** - More control and customization options

## II. How to translate with Gemini?

### 1. Method 1: Pay-per-use (Without API key)

**Who can use Gemini Translation (without API key):** **All paid Transcy users**
**Main benefit:** **Super easy setup** - no technical configuration needed, just start translating right away.

**How to use:**
→ Go to the **"Content translation"** section in your **Transcy app**
→ Choose the "**Markets**" you want to control translation first
→ Then choose the "**Language**" at the line "**Translate to:<language>**"
→ Select the **content sources** you want to translate
→ Click "**Translate with AI**" to search your engine
→ In the **AI engine dropdown**, click the **"Gemini"** icon

→ In the **Confirm translation** pop-up, press "**Translate now**" to run the progress translation

### 2. Method 2: API Key

**Who can use Gemini Translation with API key:** Users with **Continental plan and above.**
**Main benefit:** **More control over translation tone** - you can customize how your translations sound to match your brand voice.

#### Step 1: Get your Gemini API key

→ Log in to your Google account
→ Visit the [Gemini API landing page](https://ai.google.dev/gemini-api/docs), then click **"Get a Gemini API Key"**

→ In **Google AI Studio**, choose **"Create API key"**

→ Select a project from your existing Google Cloud projects, then hit **"Create API key in existing project"**

→ Then your API key would be auto-generated
→ Copy the key for use in Transcy

#### Step 2: Integrate the Gemini API with Transcy

→ Go to **"Account & Settings"** **in Transcy** 
→ Navigate **"Localization settings"**
→ In **"Translation engines"**, choose **"Gemini"**
→ Then choose **"Use your own API key"** and enter your **Gemini API key** in the designated field
→ Choose your preferred **"Tone"** and **"Gemini model"**
→ Click **"Save"**

#### Step 3: Use the Gemini API key translation

→ Go to the **"Content translation"** section in your **Transcy app**
→ Choose the "**Markets**" you want to control translation first
→ Then choose the "**Language**" at the line "**Translate to:<language>**"
→ Select the **content sources** you want to translate
→ Click "**Translate with AI**" to search your engine
→ Choose "**Gemini**" engines
→ You can manage which market you wanna translate by select **"Select Market"** and choose for the language market you want to translate
→ You can also control your quality of translation input your prompt into "**Additional instructions (Optional)**"
→ Press **"Translate now"**

## III. How much does it cost to translate with Gemini?

### 1. For pay-per-use (Without API key)

**Cost:** **1.2 tokens per 1 word** translated.
**Note:** You can check your payment methods in **"Account & Settings"** → **"Localization settings"**.

### 2. For API key

**Transcy doesn't charge any additional fees** when you use your own API key.
**You'll pay Gemini directly** based on **their pricing.** Check [Gemini's pricing page](https://ai.google.dev/gemini-api/docs/pricing) for the most up-to-date API costs.

### Is Gemini available for all Transcy users?
**Gemini translation without API key** works for all paid plans (**Local plus, Regional, Continental, Cross-border and Global**). However, **translation Gemini with API key** requires users with **Continental, Cross-border, or Global plan**

Yes! When using an **API key**, you can select a **translation tone** that matches your brand voice in the settings, whether professional, friendly, casual, or formal.

### Why does Gemini translation take longer than other methods?
**Gemini provides higher-quality translations** with better accuracy and more natural phrasing. This extra quality requires more processing time, but the results are significantly better.

### How can I save money when using Gemini translation?
