I. What do you need to know about "3rd-party app" function?

"3rd-party app" function is an auto translation function that automatically translates content directly on your storefront using JavaScript. Unlike in-app translations, these translations are generated on-the-fly and are not saved in Transcy's system, meaning they cannot be accessed or edited in the translation editor.

If you want to save and manage translations within the app, you'll need to use the translation tool or edit them manually.

The main advantage of this feature is its ability to translate content from third-party apps installed on your store. This content often is not stored directly on Shopify and cannot sync with Transcy through normal channels, making "3rd-party app" is the only way to ensure it gets translated on your storefront.

II. How "3rd-party app" function Works

When a visitor accesses your store, the translation process happens in the following order:

  1. Default content loads first on the storefront
  2. JavaScript detects the visitor's language and translates the content directly on the storefront
  3. The translated version is displayed to the visitor

Note: The following content types cannot be translated by this method: Code, Packing slip, Checkout page, SEO, Images and banners.

III. How to Enable "3rd-party app" function

"3rd-party app" function is enabled by default for all languages. If the feature is not working, you can manually enable it by following these steps:

→ In Transcy, go to "Market management" menu

→ Navigate to the "Languages" tab

→ Find your target language and click the "3-dot" icon

→ Turn on "3rd-party app"

Note: "3rd-party app" function works with both editable and non-editable languages, so you can apply it across all your target languages regardless of their translation type.

IV. Limitations & Recommendation

Limitations:

  • No storage: Translations are not saved in Transcy or your Shopify store. They are generated on-the-fly and cannot be accessed or edited in the translation editor.
  • Slower loading: Content displays in the default language first, then switches to the translated version, causing a noticeable delay.
  • Limited coverage: Code, Packing slip, Checkout page, SEO, Images and banners cannot be translated.

Recommendation:

For optimal results, use both methods together:

  • AI engines: translation for core content such as products, pages, and collections
  • "3rd-party app" function: to cover content from external apps that Transcy cannot sync
