I. What Are Beta Languages?
Beta Languages is our innovative solution that expands your translation capabilities far beyond Shopify's standard limits. While Shopify typically allows only 20 editable languages, our beta program unlocks 147 languages total:
- 20 standard editable languages (from Shopify)
- 127 additional non-editable languages (powered by Transcy)
This breakthrough feature helps you reach customers in markets you never thought possible, from major global languages to niche regional dialects.
Beta language is only available for the Cross-border and Global plan
Why This Matters for Your Business

As of September 4, 2025, Transcy has launched new subscription plans to improve stability, convenience, and flexibility, replacing our previous plans. You might be wondering whether your beta languages will still be available. Here are some key points you should know
For existing beta language participants (Premium and Enterprise plans):
- Your current beta language count will remain unchanged as a loyalty benefit for our long-term customers who have been with us throughout this period
- If your current language count exceeds limit, you can continue using all existing languages without restrictions, but you won't be able to add new ones
- Even if you remove some beta languages, you still won't be able to add new languages back
For new customers and existing customers without sufficient quota:
- Language addition will be limited based on subscription plan:
- 50 languages (20 editable languages + 30 beta languages) for Cross-border plan.
- 147 languages (20 editable languages + 127 beta languages) for Global plan
- Translations will continue working for approved languages, but new language additions will be restricted until quota becomes available or plan is upgraded

Our Beta Languages feature seamlessly integrates with your existing Transcy setup:

III. Current Limitations
Since this is a beta feature, some advanced function aren't available for beta languages:
- AI translation engines (OpenAI, DeepL, DeepSeek, Grok, Gemini, Baidu)
- Automate translation
- Shopify Flow
- Glossary
- Checkout page translations
*Don't worry - your standard Editable languages still have full access to all Transcy features! These limitations only apply to the beta languages.*
IV. What Happens When You Change Plans
If You Downgrade Your Plan
When you switch from Cross-border or Global to Local plus, Regional, Continental or Free plans:
➜ Beta language access stops - The additional languages become unavailable
➜ Standard languages remain - Your original Editable languages still working
➜ No data loss - Your translations are safely stored
If You Upgrade Again Later
➜ Re-join the beta program to regain access
➜ Your previous translations return - Nothing gets lost permanently
➜ Full functionality restored for all enabled languages
