I. Add languages to your store

1. Step-by-step language addition process

Adding a new language to your Transcy-powered store is straightforward. Follow these steps to get started:

Navigate to Markets section: Click on Markets in your Transcy dashboard
Select your target market: Choose the specific market where you want to add the language
Access language options: Tap the Add languages button
Choose your language: Select your desired language from the available options
Apply to multiple markets (optional): If you want to use this language across all your markets, select Add to all markets

Important note about language types: When you add a language, it's automatically set as Non-editable by default. However, only Editable languages can be fully configured with Shopify Markets. We'll show you how to switch between these types in the management section below.

2. Understanding language types

Transcy offers two language configuration types:

Non-editable language: Basic language display with limited customization options
Editable language: Full integration with Shopify Markets, allowing comprehensive customization and management

If you need Editable language functionality but it's not available in your current plan, consider upgrading to access these advanced features.

II. Managing languages on your storefront

1. Publishing and configuring language settings

Once you've added languages, you'll need to publish and configure them to make them visible to your customers:

Publishing your languages:

Go to MarketsLanguage tab
You'll see all your added target languages listed here
Turn ON the toggle button next to each language you want to publish
Your published languages will now be visible on your storefront

Switching language types:

In the same Language tab, you can easily switch between Non-editable and Editable language types
Simply click on the language type indicator to make the change

Transcy - Enable translation edits option
Bulk management options: You can efficiently manage multiple languages at once by:

Bulk selecting multiple languages using the checkboxes
Accessing the action menu to perform operations like Enable/Disable or Remove
Individual management by clicking on specific languages for targeted actions

Transcy - Manage multiple market languages
Special consideration: If you want to unpublish or remove a language that's set as the default language for some markets, you'll need to make this change directly in your Shopify Markets settings first.

2. Customizing language appearance

Make your language selector truly yours by customizing how each language appears to your customers:

Customization steps:

Hover over your target language in the language list
Click the Pencil (edit) button when it appears
Customize the following elements:

Language name: The English display name

Short name: Abbreviated version (e.g., "EN" for English)

Native name: How the language appears in its own script (e.g., "Español" for Spanish)

Flag icon: Choose the appropriate flag representation

Example customization: For Spanish targeting Mexican customers:

Language name: "Spanish (Mexico)"
Short name: "ES-MX"
Native name: "Español (México)"
Flag: Mexican flag

These customizations help create a more authentic and localized experience for your international customers.
