I. Understanding Translation Management and Language Types
Transcy's translation management system serves as your central hub for controlling how your store content appears across different languages and markets. Rather than leaving translation to chance, this comprehensive system gives you the flexibility to choose the most appropriate translation method for each piece of content, ensuring quality and consistency across your entire multilingual store.
The "Manage Translation" interface displays all your store's translatable resources in an organized, easy-to-navigate format. From here, you can view translation status, initiate new translations, edit existing ones, and manage how content synchronizes between your Shopify store and Transcy.
Before diving in, let's understand the two types of languages Transcy offers and why it matters for your business.
1. What "Editable Language" Means
Editable languages save your translations directly on the server (not just displayed in browsers). This gives you:
• Full control - manually edit, review, and track translation status (Untranslated / Outdated / Partly Translated / Translated)
• SEO benefits - search engines can find and index your translated content, bringing more international customers
Key takeaways: Long-term international expansion and serious SEO strategy
2. What "Non-Editable Language" Means
Non-editable languages show translations on your storefront using JavaScript magic. Since nothing saves on the server:
• No manual editing (if your languages is "Non-Editable", it's will not appear in "Manage Translation")
• No SEO indexing - search engines can't see these translations
Key takeaways: Quick testing or temporary coverage while you plan your full international strategy, and no need to hand-on. Everything will be automatic
II. Check Your Language Type
Not sure which type your target language is? Here's how to find out:
→ Go to "Markets" in Transcy → In "Manage markets" → Look down to navigate "Global settings" → Click "Languages"
Find your target language and check the "Edit translation" column:
• "Enable" = "Editable language"
• "Disable" = "Non-editable language"

IV. Translating with Non-Editable Languages
1. How It Works
Since your target language is non-editable, it won't appear in the "Manage Translation". When published:
• Transcy uses Google Translate's AI technology (google.translate.js)
• Translated content appears on your storefront through JavaScript
2. Limitations
• No manual editing in "Manage Translation"
• No status tracking (no need to worry about Untranslated/Partly Translated/Outdated/Translated statuses. Your content will fully translated on your storefont without caring about the status)
• Can't fix translations directly - if something looks wrong, switch the language to Editable first, then edit and save
Conclusion
Whether you choose the full control of Editable languages or the quick setup of Non-editable ones, Transcy makes international expansion accessible for every store owner. Start with what fits your current needs - you can always upgrade your approach as your global business grows.
