1. The SEO elements you can edit in Transcy

Transcy supports translating several key SEO elements of your Shopify store, each playing a crucial role in international search visibility and user experience.

1.1 URL Handle

What it is: The unique part of a page's web address (also called the slug). For example, in the product URL https://yourstore.com/products/red-shoes, the handle is red-shoes

SEO benefits: Localizing your URL handles means your URLs can contain keywords in the target language, making them more relevant and user-friendly for international customers.

1.2 SEO Title

What it is: The page title that shows up in search engine results and on the browser tab. It's often set separately from your product or page name to optimize for search.

SEO benefits: It's the first thing users read in search results, tells search engines what your page is about, and helps match your content to relevant search queries. So a well-written, keyword-rich SEO title can improve your page's rankings and is crucial for attracting clicks.

1.3 SEO Description

What it is: The SEO Description (or meta description) is a short summary of the page content, usually one or two sentences, that you can set for each page.

SEO benefits: Translating meta descriptions ensures that customers searching in different languages understand your page's value and are more likely to visit your store. Higher click-through rates signal to search engines that your result is valuable to users, which can indirectly benefit your SEO.

Important Considerations: The ability to edit these SEO elements in Transcy can vary by page type:Most products, collections, blog posts, and pages support all three elements (URL handle, SEO title, and description) for translation. Some content might only have a subset of these (for example, the homepage has an SEO title and description set in Shopify's Preferences, but no separate handle since it's the root URL).Some parts of your store do not have SEO fields that can be translated. For instance, navigation menus, theme settings, checkout and policy pages, Shopify preferences (aside from the homepage meta tags), payment/shipping settings, or other Shopify admin sections don't include translatable SEO meta titles/descriptions.

2. How to translate SEO content

Translating SEO content in Transcy involves a few steps to ensure your SEO data is safely imported and editable. Below is a comprehensive step-by-step guide:

Step 1: Sync content from Shopify

Before you can translate SEO text, you need to ensure Transcy has the up-to-date information. By default, Shopify protects your data by not exposing default SEO info to third-party apps automatically until a change is made, so a manual sync is often needed. Here’s how to sync:

β†’ Go to "Translation" β†’ In "Manage translations" interface, open "Translate content' β†’ Click "Sync content" to fetch the latest products, collections, and other resources from Shopify.

Step 2: Unblock SEO elements

Transcy blocks SEO elements by default to safeguard your search rankings. This means even after syncing, the meta title and description fields (and URL handle) might be hidden or locked in the translation interface until you explicitly allow their translation.

To unblock SEO elements:

β†’ Go to "Translation rule" menu in Transcy β†’ Navigate "Blocked Elements" β†’ By default, these will be toggled on to blocked β†’ Turn off the toggle.

Unblock SEO elements

Then you will see an unblocking SEO translation confirmation pop-up. Click "Confirm" to apply the change.

Step 3: Translate SEO content

With your SEO data synced and unblocked, you can proceed to translate the content into your target languages. Transcy offers two main methods to translate SEO content:

Method 1: Use AI engines

Bulk Translation Process:

β†’ Use the language dropdown and select the language you want to work on.

β†’ Choose the resource you want to have SEO content translated. You can choose one item, multiple items, or select all for batch work.

β†’ From the AI engines dropdown, choose one engine (Google / DeepL / OpenAI / etc.).

Use AI auto translation

β†’ Hit "Translate now".

Important Note: Using AI Translation Tools can save a significant amount of time. However, keep in mind that this method will automatically run translations for all content, not just SEO fields. If your goal is only to translate SEO content, this can result in higher costs. Also, when translating in bulk, the large workload may cause processing delays.

Method 2: Manually translate

Individual Translation Process:

β†’ Click the Pencil icon to open "Edit translation".

Open "Edit translation"

β†’ In "Edit Translation", pick your target language and resource.

Then you have two options either let an AI engine translate it (and give it a quick review) or translate it yourself.

To use AI translation:

β†’ Tick the box "SEO" to choose the SEO content.

β†’ From the AI engines dropdown, choose one engine then run translation.

Choose SEO content to run translation

β†’ Hit "Translate now".

Confirm to use AI translation

Quality Verification: After processing, the new translation will appear in the translation text box. Manually verify that it makes sense culturally and contextually then save the changes in Transcy. The app will now use your provided text in the translated storefront.

Manual Input Option: If you prefer to control the wording or have professional translations ready, you can enter SEO translations manually for complete control over your content.

Whether you choose AI-powered bulk translation for efficiency or manual translation for precision control, the platform provides flexible options to meet your specific SEO localization needs.
