Getting started with Transcy: from install to your first translated page

You just installed Transcy and the app is asking you things you have not decided yet. That is normal. This article is the map: what Transcy actually does, what the setup wizard already handled, and the four things every store sets up — in the order that works.

If you already know what you want to do, jump to section V and find it in the list.

I. What Transcy does for your store

Three jobs, and it helps to keep them separate in your head because they are set up separately:

→ Translation — your product pages, collections, checkout, emails and SEO content appear in your customer's language instead of only yours.

→ Currency — prices show in your customer's currency instead of only yours.

→ The switcher — the little control on your storefront that lets a shopper pick their language or currency themselves.

You do not have to use all three. A store selling only to Vietnam in Vietnamese and English needs translation and a switcher, and may never touch currency.

Transcy works on top of your Shopify markets and languages — it does not replace them. Anything you set up in Shopify Markets shows up in Transcy, and the other way round.

II. The setup wizard you saw after installing

The first time you open Transcy, a full-screen wizard runs once. It is not something you can break, and you can leave and come back — it reopens at the step you stopped on.

What it does, in order:

Step

What happens

1

Reads your store: your products, your markets, the languages you already configured, and the regions you sell to.

2

Shows you what it found and asks you to confirm it looks right.

3

Asks three questions about what you are trying to achieve.

4

Proposes a setup based on your answers.

5

Shows you a preview of your translated storefront, and lets you adjust the switcher.

6

Recommends a plan and starts your trial.

If your store has a storefront password on, the wizard asks for it before it can continue. It needs to see your storefront to build the preview.

If the wizard did not finish, or you skipped through it — nothing is lost. Everything it sets up can be set up by hand afterwards, which is what the rest of this article covers.

III. The four things every store sets up

Do these in order. Each one depends on the one before it.

Step 1 — Choose a plan

You have to pick one to get past the install screen, and the 7-day trial gives you every feature while you decide. You can switch plans freely during the trial.

→ Get started with your 7-day free trial

Step 2 — Add your languages and currencies

This is the step people look for and cannot find, because it is not called "languages" — it is called Markets. A market is a place you sell to, and each market holds the languages, currencies and domain that place uses.

Add the language first. Everything in step 3 translates into the languages you add here.

→ How to set up currency code on Shopify with Transcy
→ How to set up exchange rates in Transcy

There are two kinds of target language — editable and non-editable. Non-editable languages are translated automatically by Google auto-translate and cannot be hand-corrected; editable ones can. If you ever want to fix a translation by hand, you need an editable language. How to switch between them

Step 3 — Translate your content

Two things happen here and they are often confused:

Sync pulls your store's content into Transcy so it has something to translate. Translate produces the other language. Content that was never synced cannot be translated — which is the usual reason a page looks untranslated.

→ Overview of the content synchronization system
→ How to translate and update content in Transcy
→ How to search and edit translated content manually

Once it works, stop doing it by hand — set a rule so new products translate themselves:

→ How to set up rule Automate Translation

Step 4 — Turn on the switcher

Your store is now multilingual, but a shopper has no way to choose. The switcher is that control. You pick where it sits, what it looks like, and whether it guesses the visitor's language from their location.

→ Set up Switcher on your store with Transcy
→ Get started with Transcy Geolocation features

IV. What "done" looks like

Open your storefront in a private browser window and check three things:

  1. The switcher is visible.
  2. Picking a language changes the page text — product titles, buttons, menus.
  3. Picking a currency changes the prices.

If all three work, your setup is done. Everything after that is refinement: SEO content, checkout, emails, third-party app text.

VI. First-day questions

Nothing on my storefront changed. Did it work?
Check in this order: is the language added in Markets, was the content synced, was it translated, and is the switcher published. Most "nothing happened" reports stop at the sync step — Transcy can only translate content it has pulled in.

How long does the first translation take?
It depends on your catalogue size. Large stores sync and translate in the background; you do not need to keep the tab open.

Can I try it before paying?
Yes — 7 days, every feature, one trial per store. Details

Will uninstalling leave code behind in my theme?
There is a cleanup article for exactly that: How to remove leftover code after uninstalling

I already translated my store with another app. Do I start over?
Not necessarily — Transcy can pick up existing translations in some cases. What syncs from another translation app
