How to add Transcy Switcher app block to your theme

Place the Transcy switcher exactly where you want it on your storefront using a native Shopify app block — no code, and no developer needed.

When you need the app block

The app block is how you place the switcher yourself when your theme does not embed it automatically.

First, set the position. Go to Transcy → Switcher settings → Advanced → Customization → Switcher tab → Position and choose Embedded in the page. The other two positions — Floating on page corner and Over the top of page — place the switcher on their own and ignore the app block entirely.

Then it depends on your theme:

Your theme

What happens

On the list of supported themes

Transcy already knows where your header is and embeds the switcher there automatically. That placement takes priority, so an app block you add is not used.

Not on the list

Transcy has no header position to aim at, and this is where the app block comes in — it tells the app exactly where to render.

You can add the block on any theme. On a supported theme it simply has no effect, because the automatic header placement wins.

App embed and app block are two different things. The Transcy app embed turns the app on for the whole theme and must be enabled first — see How to activate Transcy on your store. The Transcy Switcher app block below decides where on the page the switcher appears.

How to add the switcher block

→ Go to Shopify admin → Online Store → Edit Theme
→ Select the section where you want to display the switcher (e.g., Header or Footer).

Navigate where to show your Transcy switcher on your storefront

→ Click Add block, switch to the Apps tab, and select Transcy Switcher.

Add app block Transcy Switcher in theme editor

→ Click Save in the top-right corner.

Save app block in theme editor

Once saved, the block appears under that section in the theme editor and the switcher renders in the same spot on your storefront.

The block has no settings of its own — it only marks where the switcher renders. Languages, currencies and styling stay in your Transcy switcher settings.

Rules to know

Rule

What it means

The block is required on unsupported themes

If your theme is not on the supported list and the position is Embedded in the page, the switcher appears only after the block is added in the theme editor. No block added, no switcher shown.

Only the first block renders

Transcy shows one switcher per page. If several Transcy Switcher blocks are added to the same page, the one in the first position is displayed and the rest are ignored.

Blocks belong to the theme

Shopify stores the block inside the theme it was added to. Publishing a different theme starts from that theme's own defaults, so the switcher falls back to floating — see Why does my embedded switcher go back to floating format after changing theme? Add the block again in the new theme.

Published themes only

Transcy does not run on draft themes. Publish the theme for the switcher to appear on your storefront.

Troubleshooting

The switcher does not appear on my storefront.
Check three things: the Transcy app embed is enabled in your theme, a Transcy Switcher block has been added in Themes → Customize, and the theme has been saved and published. On a theme outside the supported list, the switcher does not render without the block.

I added two switcher blocks but only one is showing.
That is expected. Transcy displays one switcher per page, and only the block in the first position is shown.

The switcher went back to floating after I changed my theme.
The new theme has no Transcy Switcher block yet, so the switcher falls back to its floating position. Add the block again on the new theme. Full explanation: Why does my embedded switcher go back to floating format after changing theme?

My theme is on the supported themes list — do I need the app block?
No. Supported themes embed the switcher in the page header automatically, and that placement takes priority over an app block. Adding the block does no harm, it just has no effect. See Which themes are supported for Embedded Switcher in your page header?

I added the block but the switcher still shows in my header instead.
Your theme is on the supported list, so Transcy is placing the switcher in the header automatically and that placement wins over the block.

Do I still need to rename my theme with "TC"?
No. Renaming the theme was the earlier workaround for unsupported themes. The Transcy Switcher app block replaces it — add the block instead.
