FAQ: What happens when I change my Transcy plan upgrade or downgrade?

Planning to upgrade or downgrade your Transcy subscription? This guide explains exactly what happens to your translations, settings, and features when you change plans, so you can make the right decision for your store's growth.

I. Understanding Plan Changes

When you're ready to scale your global business or need to adjust your budget, changing your Transcy plan is straightforward. Here's what you need to know about the two types of plan changes:

UPGRADE
Upgrading your plan instantly unlocks powerful features that help you reach more customers worldwide. Want to see all the amazing features available? Check out our complete plan comparison guide to discover what's possible.

DOWNGRADE
Downgrading works differently depending on your billing cycle:
Annual subscribers: Your new plan activates when your current annual cycle ends
Monthly subscribers: Changes take effect immediately after downgrading

Your translations stay safe! All your translated content and manual edits are preserved when you downgrade, though you can only publish languages within your new plan's limits.

II. What Changes When You Downgrade

1. Enterprise to Premium Plan

When moving from Enterprise to Premium, you'll still have powerful features but with these adjusted limits:
• Machine translation: Up to 1,000 products (instead of unlimited)
Glossary rules: Up to 500 custom rules
Auto-update translation: 100 products, 100 collections, 100 other pages
Replace image function: 100 products, 100 collections, 100 other pages
• Custom switcher templates: Maximum 6 templates

2. Premium to Growth Plan

Moving to Growth plan gives you these core features with smart limits:
Editable languages: Publish and edit up to 5 target languages
Glossary rules: 100 custom translation rules
Replace image: Works for 10 products and 10 collections only (homepage replacement disabled)
Auto-update translation: Available for 10 products and 10 collections (other pages excluded)

Smart data protection: If you've set up more than 10 pages in Premium, don't worry! Your configurations are saved, but new additions are blocked until you're within limits. Previously published pages return to unpublished status and need republishing according to your new plan limits.

Example scenario: You had 60 product pages set up for image replacement in Premium. After downgrading to Growth, those 60 pages remain in your list but you can't add more. All previously published pages become unpublished and you can republish up to 10 according to Growth plan limits.

3. Growth to Basic Plan

Basic plan focuses on essential translation features:
Editable languages: 1 language only
Non-editable languages: 1 language only
Metafield, Notifications, Packing Slip translation: Disabled
Auto-switch language: Not available
Auto-update translation: Disabled
Glossary function: Inactive
Replace image: Not available
Daily sync: Disabled
• Custom switcher templates: 3 templates maximum (Classic style only)

Template preservation: Your current active switcher stays live even if it's Modern style, and you can customize it. However, you can only create new Classic style templates.

4. Basic to Free Plan

Free plan gives you a taste of Transcy's power:
• Premium functions: Disabled
Manual translations: Kept for 90 days, then automatically deleted
Third-party app integration: Disabled
Geolocation settings: Not configurable
Auto-switch currency: Disabled
• Template management: Limited to default plus 3 custom Classic templates
Target languages: 2 maximum (2 non-editable OR 1 editable + 1 non-editable)
Target currencies: 1 only

Important: Editable languages from higher plans automatically become non-editable in Free plan.

Universal downgrade rule: When you switch to a lower plan, all languages and currencies return to unpublished status. You'll need to republish them within your new plan's limits.

III. Extending Your Limits

Great news! You can expand any plan's capabilities by purchasing additional resource quotas for:
Machine translation for more products
Auto-update translation for more pages
Replace image for more content
Glossary for more custom rules

This creates a custom plan perfectly tailored to your needs. Learn more about extending your resource limits here.

Custom plan example:
You're on Growth plan ($29.9/month) with 1,000 product translation limit, but have 2,000 products. You purchase an additional 1,000 product quota, creating a custom plan with 2,000 product capacity.

If you later downgrade back to original Growth plan, your limit returns to 1,000 products. The app will prioritize translating your newest 1,000 products (products 1,001-2,000 in your list).

Smart resource management: When downgrading from custom plans, Transcy automatically unpublishes excess resources based on usage history (oldest first) to match your new plan limits.

Ready to optimize your plan? Whether upgrading to unlock new markets or adjusting for budget, Transcy makes plan changes simple while protecting your valuable translation work.
