FAQ: Old Translations From Other Translation Apps Still Showing After Removing

The Problem


After uninstalling the "Translate & Adapt" or "Weglot" app and installing Transcy, your website still displays the old translations from the removed app rather than the new translations.


Why does this happen?


When you use translation apps like "Translate & Adapt", the app saves translations directly into Shopify's language database.


Uninstalling the app ONLY removes the app's code and features; it does NOT automatically delete the translations that were saved in Shopify's system.


As a result, the old translations remain in the database and continue to display, preventing your new translation app from working properly.


Solution 1: Manage in Shopify setting


Step 1: Unpublish the Language


  1. Go to Shopify AdminSettingsLanguages
  2. In the "Published languages" section, find the language with old translations
  3. Click the "..." (three dots) icon next to that language
  4. Click "Unpublish"
  5. In the dialog box that appears, click "Unpublish" to confirm


Step 2: Delete the Language to Remove All Translations


  1. Stay in SettingsLanguages
  2. Scroll down to the "Unpublished languages" section
  3. Find the language you just unpublished
  4. Click the "..." (three dots) icon next to that language
  5. Click "Remove language"
  6. In the dialog box, click "Delete" to confirm


Additionally, deleting a language will also remove it from all markets where it was added.


Solution 2: Manage in Transcy


If you want to delete translations directly in Transcy:

Steps:

  1. Go to Transcy app
  2. Find the "Content Translation" section
  3. Navigate to "..." next to "Translate with AI" (if you want to delete all)
  4. Or you can choose delete for few resources by navigate to the resource (Products, Themes, Blog post,...) and choose "..."
  5. Click "Delete translations"
  6. Choose the language you want to remove (individual or select all)
  7. Select "Delete" to confirm


IMPORTANT WARNING: Deleting a language will PERMANENTLY DELETE ALL TRANSLATIONS for that language. This action cannot be undone!
