FAQ: Why am I seeing 404 error pages on my site?

Encountering 404 error pages on your multilingual site can be frustrating, especially when everything seemed to work fine before. This issue usually relates to URL handles - the part of your web address that identifies specific pages or products.

Quick Diagnosis Steps

Check Your URL Handle Translations

→ Go to "Product Resources" in your Transcy dashboard by follow: "Translation" → "Translate Content" → Navigate to "Product"

→ Find the product or page that's showing the 404 error

→ Look for "URL Handles" section

→ Check if you have translations for URL handles

Solution 1: Have translations for URL handles

If you have translated URL handles causing problems:

→ Locate the "URL Handles" translation

Delete the URL handle translation

→ Test the page again - it should now work properly

Why this works: Sometimes translated URL handles can conflict with your store's routing system. Removing the translation lets the original URL handle work correctly.

Solution 2: Don't have translation for URL handles

If you don't have translation for URL handles:

→ Go to your original store (default language)

→ Try accessing the same product or page link

→ Check if you get a 404 error there too

If the original link also shows 404:

→ This isn't a Transcy issue

→ The original product/page has been deleted or moved

→ Contact Shopify Support to restore missing content

→ Check your Shopify admin to see if the item still exists

If the original link works fine:

→ Contact our support team for further investigation

Note:Transcy doesn't interfere with your original Shopify content. If your default language pages show 404 errors, this indicates an issue within your Shopify store itself, not with the translation app. Always check your original content first before troubleshooting translation-related issues.
